Pre-order Doorways by Aaron Friend Lettner

Anchorless Press is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of Doorways by Aaron Friend Lettner, award winner of the inaugural Burtynsky photobook grant, presented by the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival.

Challenging the boundaries of traditional photobook design, Doorways opens the viewer’s eyes to a bookmaking process in which manipulated photographs, poetry and prose integrate and play to create a new work of art.

Each page turn is full of surprises and discoveries, with a non-linear narrative that asks to be read and reread, from beginning to end, looping back again. Anchorless Press is excited to be a part of the final design process and production of this arresting work.

The artist writes: Doorways began with several experiments: Manipulating photographic materials in the darkroom, integrating text into image sequences, and tampering with the bookmaking process itself. Over time, the physical processes seemed less important to me; I became interested in the symbolic properties of images and began to try what I now understand as writing with pictures.”

The book will be released alongside a featured exhibition in the 2017 Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, May 2017.

In order to raise funds for the printing of the book, we are launching a pre-order. The first 50 pre-orders will receive a one-of-a-kind image from the book (roughly 4″x6″) on the offset plate used in the original printing.

Pre-orders with bookplates are limited to the first 50 collectors (0 remaining – but you can still pre order the book!)
